Personal Profile
Cathleen Marie Vitale was born in Amityville, New York, August 13, 1964.
Her family moved to the State of Maryland in June of 1974. She attended
public school, in Anne Arundel County, graduating from Severna Park
Senior High School in June of 1982. She commenced her undergraduate
studies at Mary Baldwin College located in Staunton, Virginia
transferring after her freshman year to the University of Maryland where
she earned a degree in Government and Politics in 1985.

She entered the University of Baltimore School of Law in the
fall of 1986 receiving her Juris Doctor in May of 1989. Ms. Vitale was admitted
to the Maryland Bar in December of 1989.
Beginning in 1989, she clerked for the Honorable Raymond G. Thieme, Jr.,
Administrative Judge for the Maryland 5th Judicial Circuit and then
began her private practice in September of 1990 in Anne Arundel County.
In September of 1994 , Ms. Vitale became a member of the law firm of
Henault & Sysko, Chartered, located in Glen Burnie, Maryland. She was
elevated to the position of Senior Member in January of 1998. Her
practice focuses primarily on family and civil litigation.
Ms. Vitale has been active in both community and bar association
activities. She has appeared as a lecturer for the Anne Arundel County
YWCA and the Anne Arundel County Public Schools conducting seminars on
matters involving government and law. She served as Vice President of
the Whitehurst Community Association in Severna Park. She is active in
the education of County students by her participation as a Judge, in the
County Public and Private School Mock Trial Program. She is a member of
the Severna Park High School Business Advisory Board and as a member of
the Severna Park Chamber of Commerce has actively participated in the
Student Intern program which gives junior and senior high school
students an opportunity to intern in fields of interest they seek to
pursue.
She guest lectures at the Anne Arundel County Community College in the
paralegal program on issues related to family and domestic law and
regularly participates as a panel member in the political science
program speaking on such issues as political party structuring, local
government and state and local legislative initiatives. She was
appointed by the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County to the domestic
and family mediation panel where she mediates matters relating to
custody and visitation and marital property disputes. In July of 1998
she was elected to the Anne Arundel County Bar Association Board of
Trustees.
She has used her financial and fiscal knowledge with positive results
during her tenure as Vice President of the Saint John's the Evangelist
Catholic School Board, where she was instrumental in the creation and
approval of a long range plan for the school and the parish which
included a multi-million dollar capital expansion as well as educational
goals for the students and school.
Ms. Vitale has been involved for numerous years in supporting County and
State political officials by her voluntary efforts. In 1994, she was
elected to her first public office, the Anne Arundel County Republican
State Central Committee where she was voted Vice Chairperson, during
which time she also served on the Finance Committee. Since 1998, she has
functioned as the Chairperson of the County Republican Party. In 1999,
she was elected to the position of Secretary for the Maryland Republican
Party.
Ms. Vitale was appointed to her first term as Councilwoman for the
5th District of Anne Arundel County, which serves the Severna Park,
Arnold and Broadneck Peninsula in February of 2000. She was re-elected
to the seat in 2002 in a landslide.

She encourages a
"team approach" between area businesses, County government and the local
community to enhance the County. She was honored by the National
Register's Who's Who in Executives and Professionals in 2001. She
recently received recognition from the Severna Park High School Athletic
Boosters for her help in securing necessary funding from the Board of
Education for the girls softball dugouts and field work for the Boys
Baseball fields. In March of 2002 she was recognized by the Severna Park
Optimist Club for her dedication to constituent service for the
residents and communities of Anne Arundel County. Ms. Vitale regularly
participates as part of the Legislative Committee and Business
Development Committees for the Severna Park Chamber of Commerce and is a
member of the Greater Severna Park Council acting in the capacity of
Councilwoman and delegate from her local neighborhood.
She resides in Severna Park, Maryland with her husband, Mark Muckelbauer,
a Lieutenant with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and their
eight
year old son, Mark, Jr.
