Cathy's top priority is a quality education for our children.

  • Fought to keep community residents in community schools
  • Secured funding for replacement of Severna Park Middle School
  • Achieved passage of legislation that halts development where our schools are overcrowded
  • Funded class size reduction, textbooks for every student and necessary classroom supplies
     
  • Supported funding for a turf field at Broadneck High School (first in the County) and the field house at Severna Park High School
  • Supported emergency legislation to provide for relocatable classrooms and facility upgrades

Cathy believes secure and viable neighborhoods are a key to our quality of life.

  • Ensured budgetary approval for sidewalk renovations and replacements
  • Funding for road resurfacing
  • Continued funding for the Community Center in Severna Park
  • Supported legislation permitting communities access to public water and sewer
  • Sponsored legislation to enable Cape St Claire community residents additional marina slips and water access to the Magothy River and Chesapeake Bay

Cathy understands that stewardship of our rivers and the Chesapeake Bay is important to our economy and way of life.

  • Stricter fines for violations of the Critical Area regulations
  • Stricter regulations on stormwater management
  • Funding for restoration of the North Cypress Branch
  • Working with various watershed groups to educate the public on the need for watershed protection and preservation of our natural resources
  • Agricultural land preservation funding and additional open space designations.
  • Sponsored legislation which protected scenic and historic roads from inappropriate development
  • Sponsored critical area legislation requiring local compliance with state critical area laws

Cathy has consistently supported legislation to allow a quality way of life for Seniors.

  • Sponsored legislation to provide affordable housing for seniors.

  • Helped to find funding to support the new Community Center in Severna Park.
     

Cathy supports a healthy business climate and believes small businesses are the key to expanded employment opportunities right here at home.

  • Supported the creation of community-friendly business districts and creative mixed use development
  • Supported businesses wanting to revitalize old shopping centers and neighborhoods
  • Routinely meet with new and existing business owners to address issues and local concerns
  • Supported legislation preserving farm and agricultural land through creative farming uses
     

Cathy recognizes the importance of safe and convenient recreational facilities for families.

  • Funding for additional phases of the Broadneck Trail
  • Lighting for Broadneck and Kinder Parks
  • Supported legislation developing a Countywide pedestrian and Bicycle master plan

 

And, Cathy has worked tirelessly to bring common sense to public policy.

  • Voted against pay raises for County Council
  • Introduced legislation to increase community and citizen input on development projects
  • Sponsored legislation to require the administration to provide public notice of residential and commercial developments
  • Sponsored legislation to require community meetings to allow for public input both before and after a development is submitted for approval.
  • Sponsored legislation providing for tax credits for property owners willing to place their property in conservation easements.
